On 23rd April 2025, Bosch has announced that it has received its first order for high performance computer from a Chinese automaker firm. The high-performance computer will be used to make an AI cockpit. Bosch has not disclosed its client name, but has said that the Chinese automaker intends to install the AI cockpit computer across its different models, and aims to install six figures of units in 2025.
According to Stefan Hartung, chairman of the board of management of Robert Bosch GmbH, “Bosch is driving forward developments in China at high speed and successfully bringing them to market. This applies in particular to the areas of infotainment, driver assistance, and electromobility”.
Bosch claims that the AI cockpit will enable the vehicle drivers to interact with their vehicle in a very natural way. Moreover, the high-performance computer-powered AI cockpit will also allow drivers to install new functions and applications as software updates over the air very easily. Their computer’s processor, known as a system on a chip (SoC), is fusion-capable, which means it will allow the automaker to expand its cockpit features in the future. The automakers with the adoption of Bosch’s AI cockpit will be able to combine different domains, such as driving assistance and infotainment together in one SoC. The high-performance technology will also benefit automakers by reducing installation space and simplifying cabling, leading to reduced costs.
The company has a focus on the development of both software and hardware mobility solutions, which provides it edge over the Chinese market. It has not only received its first order for high performance computer in China, but has also received orders for brake-by-wire systems. The brake-by-wire system will eliminate the connection between the pedal and the braking system, and transmit the braking request electrically. The braking system is already been in use in the European market, and now with this new order, it will become functional in the Chinese market also.
According to Markus Heyn, member of the board of management of Robert Bosch GmbH and chairman of Bosch Mobility, “China is an extremely competitive market with demanding, tech-savvy drivers. Bosch works with almost all Chinese manufacturers, but also with numerous international automakers operating in China”.
Apart from the AI cockpit and brake-by-wire system, a new approach to steering systems, electromechanical systems, a 48-volt electrical system, and a new radar sensor, which will support the requirements of future software-focused and automated cars, are in line for production.
